The Seward History Group is proud to announce the second printing of “A People’s History of the Seward Neighborhood.” Our first printing is completely sold out and was nominated for an award by the Midwest Independent Publishers Assoc. We took the “silver” award. Just announced: the book has earned the American Association of State and Local History (AASLH) top award in its category. We are now trying to figure out who among us will be going to Philadelphia to pick up the prize and maybe take a few workshops at their annual meeting in August. It’s a four day event. I’m delighted to be a part of this community effort. Seven years of hard work with key support from the Minnesota Historical Society and the Hennepin County Library, Special Collections …. All profits return to the neighborhood group.
History walks through the Seward Neighborhood will be starting again soon . Check the Seward Neighborhood Group website for more info. And the 50th Anniversary of Matthews Park will be celebrated on Wed. July 10th from 7-8:30 pm. I wrote the “parks” chapter for the People’s History so I will be there learning more from those who grew up in the neighborhood before and after the park was created. Our book is just the beginning, not the end of our search for great stories!
